Forecast: Mariah Set For Mild Opening

Mariah is back to the music scene! On Wednesday morning, the seasoned singer will drop the 3rd official single from her new album. The new single, "You're Mine (Eternal)" will be released just in time for Valentine's Day (hint, hint the cover). The real question is, will the song perform well? Mariah was at the top of her game back in the 1990s and 2000s but has since become one of the most skipped over artists in the game.

Her first single from the The Art of Letting Go era, "Triumphant (Get 'Em)" was one of her biggest career bombs and was subsequently cancelled and demoted to promo single status. It also failed to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and the CDS Music Chart Hot 50.

The 2nd overall and 1st official single, "#Beautiful (feat. Miguel)", was released in May 2013 and peaked at #14 on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 and #15 on the Billboard Hot 100. While it was one of her lower peaking singles, it still obtained some success.

The 3rd overall single and 2nd official single, "The Art of Letting Go", received extreme critical success and was critically acclaimed worldwide. Unfortunately, the single failed to obtain the same commercial success as its predecessor and even did worse than "Triumphant (Get 'Em)". It has yet to reach the CDS Music Chart Hot 50.

"You're Mine (Eternal)" will be released tomorrow, Wednesday, February 12th, 2014. So far the song hasn't been previewed or heard which makes it a little hard to accurately make a prediction/forecast about what its opening week will look like. With only 3 days as part of week 1, it will take a lot to nab a strong opening. I'm predicting a mild top 40 chart entry with a possibility of a top 30 entry. This is mainly because Mariah has had a mixed amount of success recently, but seeing that it will be a go to song for Valentine's Day, its possible that it will have a strong voter week. This means that it could be voted as the song of the week by my twitter voters. Additionally, the song will likely nab a 5 point bonus this week with the release of the official music video.

Based on this overall analysis, it is safe to say that the single will easily chart but it will take a lot of upward momentum to muster a decent run. It likely won't reach the same level that "#Beautiful (feat. Miguel)" did in May 2013 (#14) but will definitely last for at least a month.

Come back tomorrow for the updated forecast
