Maroon 5 Confirms New Album "V": What Does This Mean For Summer Songs?

Earlier this morning, American band finally confirmed the release of their highly anticipated 5th studio album, V. The new album's title stand for 5 (as in the band's 5th album) in roman numerals. The album will be released on September 2nd. It will be preceded by the release of as of yet untitled new single during the Summer. So what does this really mean? It means that there's more competition for the Summer Songs list.

Back in 2012, Maroon 5 was at the top of their game. They placed two tracks on the 2012 Summer Songs list, the first ever #1, "Payphone", and fellow #1 "One More Night at #10 and #2 respectively. In 2013, "Love Somebody", (a holdover #1 from September 2012) was able to continue to score points alongside its official release as a single in the United States. It ranked #49 on the Top 75, a fairly high outcome for a track that debuted in the previous year.

Although we have no idea what song Maroon 5 is planning to unveil - or when they plan to do so -, it's a safe bet that whatever track they release will become a massive success on the CDS Music Chart Hot 50. Here's a list of their top tracks (keep in mind the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 was launched in 2012, so only tracks released from 2012 onward are on this list):

1. "Payphone (feat. Wiz Khalifa)"
Peak: #1(x4)
All Time Points: 1383.35
All Time Rank: #5

2. "One More Night"
