#1 Watch: Maroon 5 Set For 2nd Week; Exclusive Look At Summer #1's

With Maroon 5's 4th #1 single, "Maps", locked in for a second week at the CDS Music Chart Hot 50 summit, I've decided to take a look at some strong contenders for #1 singles that could potentially hold the top slot throughout the rest of the Summer season (which ends in early September). Keep in mind, this is just a rough list. Here we go.

Maroon 5 - "Maps"
While it seems nearly pointless to include this track on this list (given that it is currently the #1 single on the Hot 50), it's worth noting that "Maps" has already become one of Maroon 5's biggest singles to date, with 196 locked up through week 4 (given that the likely accurate position for the track's 4th week are in fact correct). At this point, it's highly likely that the track holds at #1 for at least another week or two (with competition only really coming from "Giant In My Heart" by Kiesza). 5 weeks at #1 is possible, but seems highly unlikely (as it would set a new record among Maroon 5 tracks).

Kiesza - "Hideaway"
With 6 weeks at #1 nailed down, and another 5 weeks at #2, Kiesza's "Hideaway" is definitely one of the biggest hits of the year to date (with nearly 600 points), and has no signs of slowing down. It's entirely possible that the track returns to #1 sometime before the end of the summer season for a 7th week on top. If it does return to #1, the timespan between the track's 6th and 7th weeks at #1 will automatically be the 2nd largest gap between weeks at #1 (largest when counting a single chart run; i.e. excluding re-entries).

Kiesza - "Giant In My Heart"
Since debuting at #8 just 4 weeks ago, Kiesza's "Giant In My Heart" has become one of the quickest growers on the chart, finally reaching a peak of #3 (as of this week). After her amazing chart performance with her debut single "Hideaway", it is highly likely that "Giant In My Heart" reaches the #1 spot by mid-August 2014.

Secondcity - "I Wanna Feel"
With a slew of deep house tracks taking the reigns throughout the past several months, it's entirely possible that Secondcity's "I Wanna Feel" winds up taking first place toward the tail end of the summer 2014 season. It currently ranks at #15, a 3 position bump compared to its rank last week.

Jessie J - "Bang Bang (feat. Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj)"
While Jessie J and Ariana Grande have had mixed amounts of success (two top 10 singles each),  Nicki Minaj (who also features on "Bang Bang") has notched 20 entries on the Hot 50, with approximately 75% of them reaching the top 10 at one point or another. While this three way collaboration is almost guaranteed to reach the top 10, it could end up reaching the top slot (with the vocal combination). In my opinion, it'll either be one of Summer 2014's biggest bombs or biggest successes... we'll see when it drops at the end of July.
